What I Ordered
Jerk Chicken
$16.50
The jerk chicken was served with a black eyed pea slaw over a bed of sweet potatoes. It was a very small serving of chicken. Additionally, I would not consider it jerk chicken. It tasted like a blackened chicken to me. Moreover, I though the sweet potatoes were very good, sweet, and rich. The black eyed pea relish added an unusual punchy acidity. If you could get all three in one bite it was a good combination of sweet, sour, and savory with diverse textures. Overall, I found this dish to be interesting but just alright and a small serving size.

Seafood Platter
$18.50
The seafood platter consisted of breaded and fried shrimp and catfish with fries and another side (side salad). The fried shrimp and catfish were cooked well but extremely normal and not very flavorful, so they benefited from the tartar sauce. The fries were nice and crispy but a bit bland. Overall, the serving size was large and everything was nicely crispy, but rather bland. Additionally, the side salad was a good size and fresh, normal garden salad.

Cornbread
free
The complimentary cornbread was served with a side of honey. I though that the cornbread was decent but the honey took it to the next level!

Overall Food
Overall, the food at Sweet Potatoes Kitchen was alright, but not particularly impressive. They offer a menu of traditional American and southern cuisine, such as fried chicken, fried catfish, wings, burgers, meatloaf, and, pot roast. I think they would be a good option for someone looking for a local, neighborhood restaurant with basic American fare. Also, people who don’t like spicy food would probably enjoy their food. We did notice the tap water was not very good so it may be worth splurging for a fountain drink.
Service
I thought the service at Sweet Potatoes Kitchen was great. The staff were extremely friendly and efficient. They were happy to offer menu recommendations as well as recommendations of other restaurants, free transportation, parking, and activities in Savannah.

Overall Atmosphere
The atmosphere at Sweet Potatoes Kitchen was very fun and casual with very colorful murals and artwork. Some of the tables had wild animal print table tops. The dining experience was very comfortable and simple. Also, it came across as a bit shabby and well loved. Additionally, they had a good oldies playlist playing in the restaurant. Outside there were several feral cats hanging around the patio.

Location
The location of Sweet Potatoes Kitchen in Savannah, GA was fair. It had plenty of parking surrounded by lovely trees with Spanish moss. Also, it is within driving distance of many hotels and other shops but not a walkable area.

Value for money
I thought Sweet Potatoes Kitchen was a mediocre value for your money. It was fairly expensive considering how plain the food was. Also, the dining experience was fine but not particularly special. Overall, it was alright and some of the serving sizes were good but I think you could probably do better for the price.
Overall
Sweet Potatoes Kitchen in Savannah, GA is a casual neighborhood American and southern food restaurant. I found the food to be cooked well but pretty bland. The best part of the experience was the phenomenal service. I think Sweet Potatoes Kitchen might be a good local alternative something casual like Panera or Buffalo Wild Wings, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for something uniquely Savannah.
