Snow Globe Spectacular - Virginia Beach, VA
The Snow Globe Spectacular is an annual Christmas event in the Virginia Beach Town Center throughout the month of December. It includes Christmas lights, large artisan snow globe decorations, live music performers, and visits with Santa.
Quality of Entertainment
At the Snow Globe Spectacular, there were five larger blow-up snowglobes in the Fountain Plaza that each housed a performer. The entertainers included a violinist, two dancers, and Anna from Frozen. One very pretty, giant snow globe had Santa and Mrs. Clause. Overall, I thought it was a fun idea, but the small size of the globes makes the performances limited for the dancers. I think the violinist, Santa, and the Anna globes were the most successful and enjoyable. A small band and some carolers were playing out in the squares. I thought the band was pretty good. The carolers were cute but didn’t sound as great. Also, there were a lot of Christmas light display, photo-op areas available that seemed quite popular.
Who Goes Here?
Most of the people that attended were families with small children, but there were some couples as well.
Venue
Overall, the Virginia Beach Town Center area was very nice for this event. It is clean and new. Most of the event took place in the fountain plaza. I thought the plaza had plenty of space and felt safe, pretty, and open. I do think the audio was not the best. Each area of the event as well as some of the businesses were blasting different music, so sometimes they were interfering with one another. They could have done with less.
Also, the style of the event was designed for people to walk around and look at the different snow globes, so there was no seating available. It would have been nice to have a main stage or main area of lights with some seating to sit and enjoy. Also, there were a lot of beautiful snow globes throughout the town center area you could look for. They were dispersed throughout the area to try to attract more business to the various shops. Though it is a good idea, you must cross a lot of busy streets to find them all, which is a bit dangerous. It would have been nice if they closed some of the interior streets to make it safer to walk around and enjoy.
Organization & Cleanliness
The Virginia Beach town center area is very clean and well maintained.
Refreshments
There are a lot of restaurants and shops throughout town center where people could get food. However, there were no additional, stands or food trucks available for the event. I believe a hot chocolate and cider stand would have been a big hit if they had one. However, I think they avoided vendors to try to promote visitors going to the restaurants in the town center area.
Venue Overall
Overall, I think it is a nice area and a fun idea for the event. The details could just use a little ironing out. It looked like the main draw of the event was the Christmas photo-op areas where people were taking family pictures.
Location
The location or the Snow Globe Spectacular was good. There was plenty of free parking available in the town center parking garages. It is a very clean new area and well lit. Additionally, there are tons of shops, restaurants, and entertainment options throughout the area. The only down side was the streets throughout the town center area being busy and it was not great to have to walk across them. So be careful! Overall, I thought it was a nice location though.
