What I Ordered

Century Egg

2.5/5

$3

I was adventurous and decided to try a century egg! I was not sure what to expect. Honestly it was not bad! Tasted like a somewhat bland hard-boiled egg. This was a single egg sliced into quarters. There is a vinegar based sauce and shreds of ginger on top. It looks much more interesting than it tastes.

Sloopy Bun

4/5

$5

The sloopy bun was delicious! It is a Chinese style pulled pork bao bun with a little fresh salad on top.  This was an average size bao bun, about the size of a tea saucer. The bao bun was fresh and soft. I just wish I had more!

Ma La Sweet Potato Noodle Soup + Chicken

2.5/5

$15

I ordered this noodle bowl with crispy chicken on top. The description indicated it was really spicy so I was a bit anxious to see how it was. It was not THAT spicy, it just had a good kick to it. Do not be afraid. This dish was a generous portion. The chicken and the broth were flavorful and pared with a variety of veggies. The sweet potato noodles were very interesting and I was not familiar with them prior. They were translucent like glass and a very slimy gelatinous texture. Overall I though the noodle bowl was good but not mind-blowing and I was not a huge fan of the Sweet potato noodles.

Cherry Blossom Cheesecake

2.5/5

$6

The cherry blossom cheesecake was a tasty treat. It mostly tastes of cheesecake with a faint hint cherry blossom left on the pallet. This was an average size single slice of cheesecake. It was quite good but not that flavorful. Overall it’s a cheesecake!

Overall, the food at Ming’s was quite tasty. I was not a big fan of the sweet potato noodles. I recommend the bao buns! The sloopy bun was fantastic!

Service

Attentiveness

4/5

The cashier and the wait staff were very attentive. Besides providing the food they checked in about refills, condiments, etc. multiple times throughout the meal. The cashier also offered good advice of what to order when I asked.

Character

4/5

The staff at Ming’s are very fun and friendly. They were helpful and nice, but also friendly and fun to chat with briefly. Additionally we sat and talked quite a long time and the staff did not try to get us to leave at all. We had good service the entire duration of our visit.

Accuracy

5/5

All of my order was correct when brought out. Additionally, the wait staff checked in with us several times throughout the meal that everything was as ordered.

Overall Service

4.3/5

Ming’s has very good service. I was impressed by how attentive the staff are as well as fun and interesting. Considering this is a very casual dining restaurant with hypothetically less interaction with the staff, the staff really go above and beyond to create a great experience.

Atmosphere

Size

Ming’s is a relatively small restaurant. It has approximately 20 tables. It is not crowded, the tables are well laid out. I recommend smaller groups.

Who Goes Here?

Someone grabbing a casual lunch or dinner.

Ambience

3/5

Ming’s is a casual modern Asian restaurant. It is a good place to stop and grab a quick lunch or dinner. It’s also a good place to grab to-go. Groups over six people need to make a reservation as space is limited. There is a lot of artificial and natural light. Ming’s has a young fresh atmosphere.

Cleanliness

3/5

The staff clean up the tables regularly. There is a lot of foot traffic through the dining area to the register as people order. Additionally, the register area is a bit cluttered, though it is in a charming way not particularly dirty. The restaurant is quite new and fresh.

Overall Atmosphere

3/5

Ming’s overall is a modern casual spot to have a quick meal. It is clean and bright.

Location

4/5

The location is great! Ming’s is located in the beautiful
Pearl district of San Antonio. It does have parking available. Though the
parking lot directly adjacent is a bit tight.

The food at Ming’s is quite good! I do think its average-slightly above average price for what they are selling. Therefore, I think it is slightly above average value for your money.
