Profs and Pints - Triple Crossing Fulton - Richmond, VA
Profs and Pints in Richmond, VA is a entertaining and educational activity series. About twice per month they offer a lecture given by a college professor on a fun topic at the Triple Crossing Fulton Brewpub. The topic of the lecture I attended was Ancient Sea Monsters. Tickets are $15 to attend and the brewery’s food and drink selection is available for purchase throughout the event. The ticketed money goes directly to paying for the event and any additional money goes to the professor giving the lecture.
Quality of Entertainment
The Profs and Pints lecture I attended was about Ancient Sea Monsters given by a professor of Classical Studies from the College of William and Mary. It was a fun lecture topic with a lot of interesting tidbits of information. It did tend toward the dry side sometimes when the professor showed a lot of ancient artifacts in a row. But overall, I enjoyed the lecture.
They had a small screen setup at the front of the room showing the PowerPoint as well as a mic and some speakers for audio. I found the screen was way too small to see properly from the back and the audio was difficult to hear. They could really benefit from a larger projector screen and some more speakers. Moreover, I would suggest getting a seat at the front so you can see and hear better.
Who Goes Here?
It appeared most of the attendees were groups of young adults and middle-aged professionals.
Venue
Triple Crossing Fulton is a large industrial modern brewery. They have a large event space in a separate room to the back of the brewery where this event was held. Also, the event space was furnished with folding chairs and tables. It seemed the event was more heavily attended than anticipated so they kept adding chairs. Moreover, the space was quite large but there were not very many tables available, most of the seating consisted of rows of chairs closer to the presenter. Tables were all at the back of the room, pretty far from the presenter. Additionally, it could be a bit challenging to eat a meal if you were not there early enough to get a table. The décor included a lot of beer barrels, simple murals, and a chandelier.
Organization & Cleanliness
Triple Crossing Fulton is a very clean, new looking establishment. It was well organized with staff checking tickets, manning the bar, and brining out orders. Food and drinks were ordered at the bar. If you ordered food, you were given a number to put on your table so the servers could find you.
Refreshments
Triple Crossing has a simple menu of pizzas, salads, and bar appetizers available.
Hilltop Franconian Kellerbier
This was a malty lager with a little citrus flavor. It was not very hoppy. I found it pleasant and easy drinking.
Hot Honey Pepperoni
The hot honey pizza is one of their best sellers. It is essentially a peperoni pizza with some pepper flakes and honey drizzled on top. This pizza had a nice sweetness to it but it did not have a strong honey flavor and was not spicy at all. It would have been much better with some spice to it. The pizza dough was enjoyable but the pie was quite greasy. Overall, it was just a basic pepperoni pizza with some sweet drizzle. The pizza size would be good for two people to share.
Venue Overall
Overall, Triple Crossing Fulton is a very clean and organized venue. I do not think their food was good enough to be worth the price and hassle of finding a table. I would recommend eating elsewhere beforehand and then getting a seat closer to the presenter.
Location
The location was rather strange for Profs and Pints in Richmond, VA. Tripple Crossing Fulton is located in the middle of an industrial park with no other shops or restaurants nearby. Additionally, it can be a bit challenging to get to with rush hour traffic if you are coming from the western side of Richmond. However, there is plenty of free easy parking available.
