Pancakes-N-Things - Chesapeake, VA
Summary
Pancakes-N-Things is a local Greek and American restaurant in Chesapeake, VA run by a lovely Greek family for over 40 years. As their name suggestions they have Pancakes and “Things” includes a wide variety of foods. Their offerings include a full breakfast menu, American classics like burgers and sandwiches, as well as Italian dishes, Greek dishes, and southern dishes. Though it is a bit confusing, there is something for everyone on the menu! Additionally, they take cash only but have an ATM available, if necessary, which is a bit strange. They used to be open breakfast, lunch and dinner, but they are currently limited to breakfast and lunch due to staffing issues. It has a very casual, family friendly atmosphere, friendly staff and it is a little shabby with a lot of family charm. With simple digs, the food is really the focus and it does not disappoint. The servings are large and they have tasty offerings.

What I Ordered
Corn BRead
Free
Corn bread is served as a complimentary side. It is a very thick and somewhat sweet corn bread. It is like a cross between corn bread and cake. It is very tasty and is served with warm whipped butter. I would recommend it.
Fried Flounder Dinner
$17.95
The flounder dinner includes a large serving of flounder and the choice of two sides. I chose mashed potatoes and macaroni salad. The flounder was huge and very moist and flakey. The breading was flavorful and crispy. There were some small fish bones in the filets, so you need to eat carefully. The mashed potatoes are creamy and served with a flavorful beef gravy. I really enjoyed the mashed potatoes. The macaroni salad did not impress me. It looked much better than it tasted. It was very doughy and mayonnaise-y with no flavor or crunch.
Grilled Tender DInner
$14.45
The grilled tender dinner is also served with the choice of two sides. We got cucumber salad and the rice with gravy. The chicken tenders were very well seasoned, almost blackened. They very moist and flavor packed. They do not have dipping sauce for the chicken tenders. The cucumber salad was room temperature and oily, almost like Italian salad dressing. It had a nice flavor but not enough seasoning. It would have been better chilled. The rice with gravy was very nice. It was nicely seasoned and very flavorful. It reminded me of the seasoning combination in rice-a-roni.
Overall Food
Pancakes-N-Things provides very large servings of pretty tasty food. The food feels like homecooked comfort food. They have a wide offering of foods like a diner and bread or cornbread come complimentary with your entrée. Some of the sides are hit or miss but the entrees are delicious.
Service
The servers at Pancakes-N-Things are very friendly, happy to chat and get to know the regular customers. It was quite busy when we were eating there. We were sat right away, though they were a bit short staffed. It took quite a while to get menus, drink, and our check. They forgot to bring the corn bread and condiments out at first and needed reminded. The staff were lovely, but they need more of them.
Atmosphere
Size
Pancakes-N-Things is a fairly large neighborhood restaurant with two rooms of indoor seating. They have approximately 40 tables. They are well spaced.

The customers are mostly locals, families, and elderly folks.
Overall Atmosphere
The atmosphere of Pancakes-N-Things is very casual like a diner. It is an old family run restaurant with a food focused, no frills experience. There is a lot of friendly hustle and bustle about the restaurant as it was quite busy. The décor is very simple and a little on the grungy side but the tables are clean. There are large windows along the right wall and photos of Greece on the walls of the restaurant.
Location
The location of Pancakes-N-Things is on the street corner of a main neighborhood road. It is not located close to any interstate exits, hotels, or nice shopping areas. The parking lot is often too small for the amount of customers, but there is additional parking available across the street. You probably have to already know about it to find it.
