What I Ordered
Mona Lisa Sandwich
$11.25
The Mona Lisa sandwich consists of ham, salami, banana peppers, tomato, onion, lettuce, and a vinegar based sauce on Italian bread. It is an attractive sandwich in a massive serving size. I could only eat half it was so big. I thought it was unfortunate it was too thick to be able to get all of the sandwich toppings in one bite. Also, the vinegar sauce made the bread a bit soggy. All in all, it was not a very well balance sandwich but it was large.
Fruit Salad
side
The fruit salad came in a large serving with grapes, pineapple, honeydew melon, and cantaloupe. It came in a large serving in a resealable storage bowl. Honestly the fruit cup was terrible. It tasted like it had been made weeks ago and left in the fridge since. The melon was mushy and everything tasted bad. Do not recommend the fruit salad.
Overall Food
Macado’s offers a huge menu, somewhat diner style offering a multitude of sandwiches as well as bar food and Italian entrees. Overall, I was not very impressed by my food during the visit. The sandwich was debatably too large and not well balanced and the fruit salad was old. I would suggest sticking with chips or fries as your side.
Service
The service at Macado’s was not that good. I was sat in the back corner by the bathroom even though hardly anyone was dining at the time. They did tell me the daily specials but they were unfriendly and very slow. Also, they did not check back frequently. Additionally, it was unclear whether you paid at the table or the counter. Turned out you are supposed to pay at the table the waitress just hadn’t made any effort to pick up my check.

Overall Atmosphere
Macado’s has a very fun and quirky atmosphere. It is packed with wild pop culture, historic and random things including a red car on the second level and King Kong. However, on the whole, it comes across as a bit grungy and divey when you look closer. It includes a full bar with a lot of TVs, so customers can watch sports in some sections of the restaurant.

Macado’s in Blacksburg, VA is in a pretty convenient location. It just off campus from Virginia Tech across from the Math Emporium. Consequently, it is along several bus routes. Additionally, they have a lot of parking available too.

Value for money
I think Macado’s is a decent value for your money. They food quality is not that high, however the serving sizes are gigantic and the prices are low. They do not skimp you on meat servings and have daily specials that are even more affordable. So, it is a good place to go on a budget and eat a large meal.
Overall
Overall, Macado’s in Blacksburg did not impress me. I do think it would be a good option for a hungry college student looking to get a lot of food at cheap prices. Also, it has a very fun, quirky atmosphere. However, the service and food were not very good. If you go to Macado’s, I would recommend trying bar food or a sandwich with fries.
