The chips and salsa are complimentary at La Carreta. They are fresh and a good serving size. The salsa is more of a runny style salsa, not very chunky, and I think it has just enough cilantro to not be overpowering. The salsa is not spicy.
Chips & Queso

The queso is your standard queso blanco. It does not have any particularly innovative seasonings, but nonetheless it is deliciously cheesy. Can’t go wrong with cheese dip! You eat the nachos that come with the chips and salsa with the queso.
Chilaquiles
$10.95
The chilaquiles meal is a traditional Mexican recipe. It is essentially a tortilla chip, cheese, chicken, and peppers casserole. It is served with a lettuce and guacamole salad and rice. Due to it being a casserole the chips are on the soggy side not crisp. Also, the menu does warn you that this is a spicy dish and it is right! Steer clear if you don’t like the heat. There is an incredibly spicy pepper sauce baked into the middle of the chilaquiles. I would guess it is made of Thai chilis or something similar. I’m a fan of spicy so I quite enjoyed the meal. The fresh guac and lettuce salad really helps to cool off your mouth and pairs very well with the rich spicy cheese and peppers.
Burritos Deluxe

The burritos deluxe is a very generous size meal. It consists of one chicken and bean burrito and one beef and bean burrito loaded with cheese, lettuce, and sour cream. This dinner is very filling and not spicy at all. The salad on top balances out the savory flavors in the burrito very well. I find this to be a delicious, filling, well-rounded meal.

The frozen mango margarita is refreshing and not too sweet. The margaritas are not very strong.

The food at La Carreta is very tasty, filling, and comforting Mexican food. The serving sizes are large and there are endless refills of chips and salsa. They have some of my favorite Mexican food in Winchester, VA. Come hungry!

The waiters are very efficient. They stop by and refill drinks, chips and salsa regularly. We got our food really quickly. The waiters are very friendly and helpful. They ask how the food is but do not interrupt to an annoying degree. The all the food we ordered was brought out correctly.

The tables are well spaced. The ambience is quiet, family friendly, and relaxed. It is a casual place to sit and enjoy your meal, talk, and not feel rushed.

La Carreta is located in Winchester, VA. They have an easily accessible parking lot. It is r outside of downtown near a lot of the car dealerships. It is on a side road and fairly tucked away, so I imagine many people never see it. There are not other shops or attractions in this area.
