Steppin Out is a local music and arts festival in Blacksburg, VA held every summer. It takes place when school is out of session at Virginia Tech so it does not have many students and is mostly geared toward the residents. It takes place over two days and features three stages of live music an hundreds of vendors including food and artisan goods.
The Amelia Lavender Festival at Windsor Farms happens every June when the lavender is in bloom. It is a cut little agrotourism event including lavender picking, vendors and live music. I had a very nice time and thought the lavender was beautiful!

This week I attended the world premiere of Grounded at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. Grounded was an avant-garde, modern opera about the military and its psychological impact on a female fighter/drone pilot. I found it was quite provocative and not for everyone. However, the Kennedy Center was spectacular and I can’t wait to return for another performance.
I attended the debut of Across the Atlantic with Tara McNeill and Alexander Bernstein in Goodson Chapel Recital Hall at the Shenandoah Conservatory. The conservatory is part of Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA.
Overall, Mount Vernon is a very nicely run historic site. It has a wide variety of things to see and learn about during your visit including, the home, grounds, and museum.
