What I Ordered

Raspberry Fog Cocktail

4/5

$10.50

The Raspberry Fog Cocktail was tasty and a good serving size. It was a juice and schnaps concoction including fresh fruit and it barely tasted like alcohol. Also, they used the good ice, the round chewy ice in the cocktail.

London Fog

5/5

$5.50

The London Fog is not listed on the drink menu but they offer it as a tea latte option if you ask. I loved it! A London fog is a hot earl gray tea latte with lavender. The serving size was large and it looked very attractive in its jumbo tea cup. The flavor was spot on with strong earl gray and lavender flavorful and rich creaminess.

Biscuits

3.5/5

$6

The biscuits are an appetizer served with raspberry jam and butter. The raspberry jam was fresh and sharp.  We were given an orange biscuit and a blueberry biscuit. Also, they came out fresh, warm, and toasty. I preferred the orange biscuit. The blueberry biscuit was good when you got a bite with blueberries in it, but the berries weren’t evenly distributed through the biscuit. So, some bites didn’t have any berries and were less good. In contrast, the orange biscuit had orange zest evenly distributed so every bite was equally delicious.

Cowboy Benedict

3.5/5

$18

The Cowboy Benedict consisted of a biscuit with bacon, tomato jam, poached eggs, bacon, and sausage gravy. First, I though the sausage gravy was good and tasted great with the savory, runny egg. However, I was not a fan of the tomato jam. It was really sweet and detracted from the overall unified rich savoriness of the dish. I think it would have been better without the gym or substituting in something spicy like a pepper jelly. The potatoes side was alright, but a bit underwhelming. It was potato wedges with a little seasoning and they were not crispy. I would recommend trying the grits or the fruit side instead.

Hen Party Omelet

4.5/5

$16

The Hen Party Omelet is a large omelet with chicken, broccoli, cheddar cheese, and herbs. Also, the omelet is smothered in hollandaise sauce. This omelet is wonderfully cheesy and filling with a nice zippiness from the herbs and sauce. It is also served with a side.

Blueberry Zucchini Cupcake

2.5/5

free

I visited the Bee and the Biscuit for my birthday so I was given a free dessert cupcake. The cupcake available is a blueberry zucchini cupcake with lemon frosting. It was a pretty small cupcake that tasted more like a muffin since it was denser. Additionally, the frosting was very thick and very sweet. Overall, it was a bit odd so I don’t think I would order it in myself, but it was enjoyable as a free treat.

Overall Food

4/5

Overall, I enjoyed the food and drinks at the Bee and the Biscuit. They have a variety of fun cocktails available at the bar in the outdoor waiting area and an assortment of tasty hot beverages inside. All of the food I tried was decent but the ones I enjoyed most were the Hen Party Omelet and the orange biscuit. They offer a very simple well-crafted menu for breakfast, lunch, and brunch.

Service

4.5/5

The service at the Bee and the Biscuit is very good. Everyone was positive, friendly, and efficient. They also were kind enough to offer a free breakfast dessert. The only thing to note is that they do not take reservation and you are expected to wait a very long time. But they are very professional and organized with taking names and seating people.

Overall Atmosphere

3.5/5

The Bee and the Biscuit offer a very unusual dining experience. The restaurant itself is in an old farm house with lots of windows with natural light and simple, fresh, farmhouse décor. However, there is a lot more to the experience. They are very busy, but they do not take reservations. You can anticipate a very long wait, our wait was about 1.5hrs. So, when you arrive you put your name down for a table with the hostess. Then you can partake in the outdoor/ground portion while you wait.

They have many large established picnic shelters available and a full bar with signature cocktails. There are also board games and card games to play while you wait. I think if you go in with the understanding that you will be waiting a while it is very fun to grab a drink and play games with your group while you wait. Additionally, they have very attractive landscaping and gardens you can look at and a merchandise booth to look at while you wait.

Location

2.5/5

The Bee and the Biscuit in Virginia Beach, VA is in a pretty odd location in farmhouse in the country. It is about 10 minutes from Sandbridge Beach but there are not any other shops and businesses nearby. The area is scenic but not very convenient. Additionally, the parking is strange. They have required “free” valet parking where you are expected to tip. If you want to self-park you must park next door and walk over.

Value for money

3/5

I think the Bee and the Biscuit is mediocre value for your money. Though the food quality is good the prices are quite high. Additionally, the atmosphere is pleasant but you do have to wait a very long time to eat. I think the Bee and the Biscuit would be best saved for special occasions when you have not other plans and can really embrace the wait. Then you can enjoy drinks and playing games with your group.

Overall

3.5/5

All in all, I enjoyed my visit to the Bee and the Biscuit. They do have tasty food and a good atmosphere, but they’re pretty pricey. Additionally, you have to go in knowing the wait will be long and try to embrace it and enjoy it. Don’t go if you have plans right after! I would recommend stopping in for a special occasion brunch.
