La Panadería Bakery Café
Summary
La Panadería is located right in downtown San Antonio. It is a large, bright, airy restaurant and bakery with tasty treats. You will get a large portion for the price but the pastries I tried were not that impressive. I would recommend eating here for breakfast or a sweet treat.

What I Ordered
Hot English Breakfast Tea
$3
I ordered a plain hot English breakfast tea. It was not too hot and a good quality tea bag. Hard to mess up hot tea!
Chocolate Concha
$3.75
The concha was interesting. It looked fantastic. It has a round dome top with a crunch crack shell on top. I felt it looked better than it tasted. Overall, it was bland and on the dry side. I ended up dipping it in my tea, which was fairly tasty. Definitely order a drink with it if you get a concha.
Bear Claw
$3.75
The fellow at the pastry counter personally recommended the bear claw. It was pretty good! A lot of dough compared to the amount of filling, but everything was tasty. There were several fruits in the filling and a sweet glaze on the pastry. Not overly sweet and pretty large pastry for the price!
Overall Food
Overall the pastries I had a La Panadería were very large and reasonably prices however they were a little dry and not all that flavorful. The hot tea was good.
Service
Attentiveness
The staff were very efficient and made sure orders were taken care of quickly. However, the overall structure of the restaurant did not have very much interaction overall.
Character
The staff were very polite but not that friendly. There is limited interaction in the restaurant design.
Accuracy
My order was correctly and efficiently provided.
Overall Service
La Panadería has limited interaction between customers and staff throughout the dining process. Customers order and pay at the register and food orders are dropped off at the table. The staff overall are very respectful and efficient, but not that friendly.
Atmosphere
Size
La Panadería is a very large café. My guess is about 50 tables. It is all indoor seating. The tables are nicely spaced and not crowded.
Who Goes Here?
Someone looking for a sweet treat or a quick meal.
Ambience
La Panadería is a good place for a quick bite or a sweet treat. You can see the huge bakery cabinets as you walk in. When you enter the dining area you can see the bakers at work through a large window into their bakery. It would be good place to have breakfast or lunch with friends and chat. It is large enough to accommodate most group sizes. I personally would not go there to read as it is not cozy and is fairly busy. It is fairly quiet but you can watch the hustle and bustle of the customers inside as well as downtown San Antonio through the windows. The entire restaurant is walled with windows, so it is quite bright and airy inside.
Cleanliness
The whole establishment is cleanly. Staff clear and clean tables regularly as customers leave. You can see into the bakery from the dining area and everything is very clean. The restaurant appears to be relatively newly renovated and fresh.
Overall Atmosphere
La Panadería is a casual dining experience. You walk in and can pick pastries from the bakery cabinet as you go to the register. At the register you order any drinks and food and pay for your order. I received my drink while at the register. Then you can find a table to sit anywhere. If you order food from the kitchen a server brings it out to your table. It is large, bright, and fairly busy inside but not crowded. This café would be a good place to catch up with friends or on a coffee date.
Location
La Panadería is located downtown in San Antonio, not far from the Alamo. It is great in some ways being right downtown within walking distance of many hotels and business. However parking is not great. The closest parking option is a paid parking garage.

Value for money
La Panadería has very reasonable pricing, especially considering its downtown. It is cheaper than cafes like Starbucks and has a fine assortment of food and sweets. I was just not impressed with the quality of flavor. Overall, I think that you get a good selection of foods, and good portions for low prices at La Panaderia.
Overall
La Panadería is located right din downtown San Antonio. It is a large, bright, airy restaurant and bakery with tasty treats. I would recommend eating here for breakfast or for a dessert.
