What I Ordered
London Fog
$5
The London Fog was quite tasty. It was warm, creamy, and had a nice earl gray taste. It was a standard take on the drink. Nice presentation in a wide cup but nothing noteworthy.
Strawbery Pastry
$4
The strawberry pastry was delicious. The pastry was light, buttery, and wonderfully flaky. The strawberry topping was also cool, light, and not too sweet. Overall, it was a good size, light, and not overly sweet.
Croque Madame
$12.50
Unfortunately, I don’t have anything to say about this entrée because it never came! I saw other customers entrees looked delicious, but I cannot say for myself.
Overall Food
Overall the pastry I received at CommonWealth Coffeehouse was very good and the beverage was average. I was very disappointed I was never able to try the breakfast meal I ordered.
Service
Attentiveness
The cashier took care of customers in a fairly timely manner and gave out the pastries from the pastry cabinet. The servers brought out customers food to tables based on an order number stand given at check out. They did not check if customers need anything else, it was more of a hands-off dining style.
Character
The staff were very nice and happy in appearance. When I told them my order had not come, they showed great concern. They gave a full refund and offered to make the food or a drink for me right away. They ended up giving me a full refund and making me a second London Fog, to-go. I was quite impressed how they faced the problem. Overall, caring staff, and good customer service.
Accuracy
Unfortunately, my entrée order was lost and never arrived. They quickly refunded and made me a second London Fog to-go when I told them of the error. However, this did indicate some disorganization.
Overall Service
Overall, the staff at CommonWealth Coffeehouse & Bakery were kind and positive. The format of the restaurant is casual. You order at the register, get a number for your table, and then the food and drinks are delivered to your table. I unfortunately did not receive part of my meal, which indicates some disorganization in the kitchen. But they quickly offered a remedy to the error and were caring in their interactions.
Atmosphere
Size
The indoor portion of the café is fairly small, with roughly 10 tables. There is a large deck with more seating outdoors. None of the tables are crowded. It is well laid out but cozy.
Who Goes Here?
People having breakfast. Also, people studying, reading, working on the computer.
Ambience
CommonWealth Coffeehouse has a cozy atmosphere. It is a great place to grab a coffee and crack open a book or work on your laptop. It is relatively quiet and comfortable spot if you can find a table indoors. The tables have small flower arrangements and the order numbers are custom illustrated, which adds a lot of charm to the establishment. The outdoor seating looks out into a small park with play areas for children. This would be a great local alternative to Starbucks for a coffee date.
Cleanliness
The staff cleaned the tables after each customer left. The restaurant overall looked relatively new and clean.
Overall Atmosphere
When you enter the café, you get in line at the register. You order any food and beverages at the register and pay. The cashier gives you a number for your table and you go find a table to sit at. Eventually a staff member delivers your food and beverages to your table and takes the number. When you are finished you leave your dishes at the table for the staff to clean up. It is a good place to grab a quick breakfast, though larger groups would have to sit outside.
Location
CommonWealth Coffeehouse & Bakery is located in Downtown San Antonio not far from the Conference Center and Tower of America in the Hemisfair area. It looks out into a park. It is walking distance to many hotels downtown. There is also a parking lot across the street.

Value for money
CommonWealth Coffeehouse has good beverages but the one I had did not stand out to me as different that a Starbucks for example and had similar pricing. The pasties and food are better than a Starbucks but are priced a bit higher as well. Therefore, if I consider Starbucks the average value for money for a café than Common Wealth Coffeehouse is slightly above average.
Overall
CommonWealth Coffeehouse is a cozy café in Hemisfair, San Antonio, Texas. It has delicious pastries and many craft beverages as well as breakfasts and light lunches. It has a small indoor seating area, and a larger outdoor seating section overlooks a park. It is a good place to grab a quick bite or settle in and read a book with a cup of coffee. I recommend small groups or solo. The staff can get a bit disorganized during busy time but are very nice and accommodating. The drinks are good and priced similarly to Starbucks. The food and pastries are delicious and set them apart.
