They offered complimentary chips in salsa for the table. The salsa was okay but lacked flavor and was quite runny. The chips were also OK. Overall, not impressed but they were fine.
Burrito Jalisco

The Burrito Jalisco is a massive burrito stuffed with chicken, steak, chorizo, shrimp, rice, and beans. It is smothered in cheese sauce and topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, and avocado. The serving size was huge! Also, in theory everything should have been great together. There were a lot of savory proteins and cheese paired with the veggies on top. My problem with this dish was that it was extremely salty. Because it was too salty it overwhelmed everything.
Horchata

Horchata is a rice water, milk, and cinnamon drink. Their horchata was served in a huge goblet. It was nicely creamy and had plenty of cinnamon. I did notice a slight soapiness to the taste that seemed a bit odd but overall, it was pretty good.
Overall Food
El Ranchero offers your typical Mexican restaurant food and drink menu. Overall, I was a bit disappointed by my food at El Ranchero. Everything looked tasty and had large servings. But the flavors were lacking.

Overall Atmosphere
El Ranchero has a very pleasant, casual, and comfortable atmosphere. It is large and spacious with large comfortable booths and tables. The restaurant looked very clean and new. Additionally, the décor was very simple with a classy mural of Mexico City.
Location
The location of El Ranchero in Hagerstown, MD is decent. It is not a very attractive or walkable area, but there are a lot of other shops, restaurants, and hotels nearby. Also, there is plenty of parking available and it is right off the interstate.

Value for money
El Ranchero offered a fair value for your money. The large serving sizes and complimentary chips are great, but I was a bit disappointed by the quality of the food. Moreover, the service and atmosphere were pretty good.
Overall
El Ranchero is a comfortable neighborhood Mexican restaurant. They offer complimentary chips and salsa and large portions but I was underwhelmed by the flavors. They would be a fair choice if you are craving Mexican food in Hagerstown, MD but I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat there.
