What I Ordered

Smoked Cuban Flatiron

4.5/5

$13.98

The Smoked Cuban Flatiron is a Cuban sandwich panini style sandwich. The sandwich includes smoked pork, ham, Swiss cheese, jalapenos, and dill pickles with a jalapeno ranch and Dijon mayonnaise. Also, it is served with a choice of side; I opted for the Cajun fires and added queso dipping sauce for $2.28.

This meal is massive! I thought the smoked pork was very good and the sandwich had a nice hearty Cuban sandwich flavor combo with the savory meat and cheese and the acidity from the pickles and jalapenos. Also, the jalapenos added a nice kick to the sandwich. One the other had there was a high bread to sandwich ratio and all the meat ended up more on one side of the sandwich so there were some bites with just bread. Moreover, the Cajun fries with queso were very flavorful and savory with good crisp texture. Overall, I thought it was an enjoyable and hearty sandwich and fries.

Limeade

3.5/5

$3.98

The limeade was pretty good. It was fresh squeezed lime juice and a bit of soda water. It was just slightly sweet with a very light citrusy flavor. I thought it was a pleasant, light, refreshing drink that was nice to pair with heavier food. I think I would try the cherry limeade next time to see if it’s a little more punchy.

Overall Food

4/5

Overall, I thought the food was quite good at Wood and Iron. It was pretty traditional American pub fair. But, I though the serving sizes were large and everything was prepared well with good flavor. Additionally, I tried a taste of the mac and cheese and loved it: it was so rich and creamy and cheesy. I would recommend all of the foods items tried.

Overall Atmosphere

4/5

The atmosphere at Wood and Iron was a lively classy sports bar. They have very simple sturdy furniture made of metal and wood with limited décor. Additionally, there are a multitude of TVs along all the walls showing various sports. Moreover, they are a very comfortable casual restaurant that would be a nice alternative to places like Buffalo Wild Wings. I think that it is set up well for watching a game but classy enough to go on a date.

Location

4/5

The Wood and Iron location I visited was in Midlothian, VA just outside of Richmond, VA. They have a few other locations in and around Richmond.  The Midlothian location was in a nice, clean, safe shopping center with plenty of east parking. Also, there were a lot of other shops and restaurants nearby.
