What I Ordered
Chocolate Chip Muffin
$3.75
The chocolate chip muffin was a standard size muffin in a cute newspaper print paper. The vanilla bread of the muffin was a nice and light. However, I was a bit disappointed the chocolate chips were only on top of the muffin, not throughout the whole muffin. It was a nice little muffin, but I wasn’t blown away.
Cinnamon Roll
$4.50
The cinnamon roll was wonderful. It is a large cinnamon roll covered in a lovely cream cheese frosting. Sweet but not too sweet. It was nice and moist and the ratio of bread to cinnamon sugar filling to frosting was perfect!
Ham & Cheese Scone
$5
This savory scone was huge: almost as big as your head! It would be hard to finish in one sitting. I didn’t really get the ham taste but it is wonderfully cheesey. If they called it a cheddar scone it would have been spot on. It is a little dry but that is common with US scones. The cheesey flavor of the bread was quite good.
Overall Food
Knead Bread offers a wide variety of fresh baked breads and baked good made from high quality ingredients. I found that they sell out of baked goods quite quickly on the weekends so you may need to go before 8AM on Saturday or Sunday to get the full menu. Everything I tried had a pleasant flavor and texture. I recommend the cinnamon roll!
Service
The service at Knead Bread is very good. It is family run and the bakers are out helping customers and answering questions. They are very friendly and you can tell they take a lot of pride in their business. The owners also seem to try to get to know the customers and enjoy discussing what is available. All the staff were very knowledgeable and easily answered any questions about the types of bread and baked goods. There are a couple cashiers to take orders as well. They are pretty busy in the morning and can have a line to order.
Atmosphere
Size
Knead Bread is very small. Most of the shop is taken up by the bakery cabinet and register. There were about four tables.
Who Goes Here?
A variety of locals visit, including families and groups of friends.
Overall Atmosphere
Knead Bread is a cute little bakery. It is very new and clean. The amount of seating is quite small. It is currently spaced out and has some large open space available. I would recommend they add in maybe three more tables in the space available and possible a couple outside. The décor is very simple and light with little flower arrangements on the tables. The table by the front shop window is quite pretty. Otherwise, I think they could benefit from some art work, possibly local art, and background music to create a complete comfy café atmosphere. Currently the atmosphere is very clean and simple but a bit unfinished.
Location
Knead Bread is a bakery in Winchester, VA, across from the historic walking mall. It has a charming store front with many shops and restaurants a walk away. Most of the parking is the parking garages for the walking mall at about $1 an hour.
